We want to answer the question: How long does CBD oil stay in your system? And also provide ways in which CBD can be a beneficial addition to your wellness regime.
What is CBD?
Before diving into the question of how long does CBD stay in your system? It’s important to first provide you with information on how CBD works. For starters, CBD, which stands for cannabidiol, is one of many active ingredients of marijuana.
What makes CBD stand out is that it can provide relief from pain, anxiety, nausea and more.
At the same time, CBD does not cause a “high” sensation, something that many people tend to carry a misconception about.
How Does CBD Work in Your Body?
So how does it work? CBD interacts with a series of receptors in our body called the endocannabinoid system. These receptors are located in our brain and immune system.
When CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system, certain behaviors are regulated (ex: fear, anxiety and pain-related behaviors,) in order to make sure that our body’s major systems are functioning smoothly.
As a result, CBD allows you to reap the benefits of relief without having to worry about an altered state of mind. That is something that arguably makes this product so appealing today.
How long does CBD stay in your system?
Let’s say you are someone who wants to start using CBD to treat pain, inflammation, anxiety and insomnia. You most likely have tons of questions and one is probably: How long does CBD oil stay in your system?
Many are new to CBD and are concerned about it showing up on a drug test. Or maybe you’d just like some peace of mind before you start to use it. Or perhaps you’re just simply curious.
Either way, we understand the importance of doing our research before introducing a new product to our system.
How Long Does CBD Oil Stay in Your System? Here’s What We Know…
The truth is, there is very little information on how long CBD stays in your system. However, based on information that is available, it is estimated that it takes about one week for CBD oil to leave your system.
In a study from 1991, 14 Huntington disease patients took 700 mg of CBD/day for 6 weeks. After the treatment, the study states that CBD levels averaged 1.5ng/ml one week after CBD was discontinued and “were virtually undetectable thereafter.” From the results of this study, a conclusion can be made that after one week, CBD levels were nearly out of the system.
In a more recent study from 2017, researchers sought to observe how CBD could reduce heroin-seeking behaviors. Individuals addicted to opioids who had been abstinent for 7 days either received a placebo, or 400 or 800 mg of oral CBD on 3 consecutive days.
“Craving was induced with a cue-induced reinstatement paradigm (1 h after CBD administration). One hour after the video session, subjective craving was already reduced after a single CBD administration. The effect persisted for 7 days after the last CBD treatment.”
The study suggests the effects continued after 7 days of treatment, though it does not elaborate on effects after those 7 days. With these combined studies we can draw the preliminary conclusion that CBD oil stays in the system for around 7 days.
What’s the Final Verdict?
All in all, the first study concludes with an interesting statement that is important to keep in the back of your mind when it comes to all CBD research. It states, “various areas of CBD research should be extended.”
There is still so much to learn about CBD, and while research is still underway, we can draw conclusions based on the data we have.
So, to answer the question: How long does CBD oil stay in your system? We can estimate that the answer is 7 days based on what the data insists.
At the same time, we can also say that more research is still continuing to be done and that the exact answer is still in progress.
Will CBD show up on drug tests?
When it comes to the question of how long does CBD oil stay in your system, it’s often in conjunction with drug tests.
Wondering whether or not you will fail a drug test from using CBD oil is quite a common question, since drug testing is often a prominent component of the workplace.
Remember that term, THC? The psychoactive ingredient in marijuana that can alter your behavior? This all goes back to that.
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the cutoff level for the presence of THC is 50 ng/mL in order to pass a drug test. Many high quality CBD products do not contain THC at all, or even enough to be considered illegal.
That’s part of the reason of what makes CBD so special. Many brands, including Altura Wellness, have less than 0.3% of THC in them making it highly unlikely for a drug test to come back as positive. However, this is not to say that all CBD oils claiming to contain 0 THC or less than 0.3% of THC should be fully trusted.
As with any product, it is important to take matters into your own hands by doing your own research and review laboratory testing (if possible) of the CBD products that you are planning on purchasing and consuming.
All of Altura Wellness products go through third party testing multiple times before being delivered to you. This is to ensure that you as a customer are receiving safe and quality products at your very own fingertips to give your body the treatment it deserves.
